So here is one of those little "treasures" that we have had around forever, buried in a box in the basement, and we don't have a clue about what it is. We don't know whether there is a proper name for it; we have always referred to it simply as "King Cole".
It is cast iron, quite heavy, and measures just under 9 inches tall. The back is hollow as if it had been sand-cast.
We have searched around the 'net and have never seen anything liked this.. or even remotely similar. To me it looks faintly Germanic or central European (The Nutcracker, anyone?)
Is anybody familiar with this kind of decoration? What were they used for? Is it part of a larger collection? We'd love to know more about it.
He's a great king, so brightly colored! To me, with the gold scepter & crown with dot on top, it is alot like a Nutcracker King design
