Very unusual lidded bowl that appears to be made out of wood. Of course, I dropped it and cracked the lid. I could kick myself. My husband says it sounded like wood hitting the floor and fixed it. Has been in the family attic for generations. Possibly looks Native American?? Has similar designs around it and designs on lid. Any clues???

Note ying and yang symbol. Oriental, perhaps Japanese or Chinese.

Maybe your are right, I never even entertained that idea. I thought the others looked like turtles or something. There is also a star, so it reminded me of the
outdoors. I don't know. I hope someone on here knows for sure. Thank you for
a completely different perspective. It could be because part of the bowl, the bottom and inside lid are almost like a lacquer finish.

Definitely not Native American Indian, if that helps any. No tribe made anything remotely like this.

I didn't think so because of the lacquer finish, but those symbols are throwing me off. Would love to know what those symbols mean. Yes, thank you that does help.

Do a little search about Japanese lacquer ware. Also, the Ying/Yang is obvious. Your piece is weathered and used to be brighter.
