Many years ago….perhaps 20 we bought from Rubén Marhuenda a pair of very old, very heavy solid bronze candlesticks (Photo 1), 1,700 Kg each one 26 cm hight and 10 x 10 the base. There would just be one of the premises that he had and we did it because they attracted me and as we have done other times, a good omen purchase for someone starting a business.
For years I was looking for something similar, I knew that they were very handmade and I thought that they could have been made here in the nascent Argentina, since there were important gunsmiths who made cannons, bells, etc. I also investigated if they could be French, English, but I never found anything that looked like these.
A little over a month ago we went to Moises Ville, it was the second time we went with Sergio, this time because a cousin of mine on my mother's side was visiting us. Moises Ville was the birthplace of my father's parents, an icon of Jewish immigration in Argentina. My grandparents always talked about their relatives and friends who still lived there when I was little, but they never took me. Most of the family had moved to Buenos Aires around or a little before 1920, and the close family all lived there, we are in Córdoba because my grandfather went blind young and La Falda in Córdoba had the reputation of being the third best world climate...
Moises Ville, according to my grandmother, was a kind of Far West. An agricultural colony. My grandfather, when he was a boy, helped in his father's butcher shop, and he used to say that at night they locked up the cattle in the central square and guarded it on horseback and armed. This return due to my cousin's obstinacy and luck we were able to see the Museum... Here was my surprise, there was a photo of the first Rabbi with our candlesticks, photo 2. You can see that the museum is poor but interesting https://museogoldman.com .ar/origins/
You will find a beautiful story on the page that I leave below, unfortunately still so current these days, people who flee from the same places….

On the web I found several russian candlesticks very similar to ours https://www.chairish.com/product/183985/18th-century-russian-sabbath-brass-candlesticks-a-pair, http://www.russiansamovars. com/product_detail.php?ID=1255 as examples.
A long trip from Córdoba but finding why I love these candlesticks paid the effort.
