Syphon bottles were very common years ago but have been displaced by the modern fizzy drink bottle. In NZ there were heaps of companies bottling soda and even in my town there were quite a few, I have 6 different ones but I hear I'm only scratching the surface (I'm trying not to get too keen on them, just a couple of Uranium ones and any Taranaki ones that fall into my hands cheap).
This one is called a pyramid bottle and was made by the BRITISH SYPHON CO LTD / LONDON for C.L.INNES&Co Auckland and Hamilton.
Interesting! I do wonder why a NZ company would buy from the UK with the transport costs that would involve.
One reason they had a Patent and back when these were made there probably wasn't a big enough manufacturing base to make them here.
Also I would suppose they had to put something in all the ships coming here to take the lamb and cheese back. :)
