This glass paperweight is about 3.5" in diameter and about 3.75" high. It weighs almost exactly 1 lb. It is not marked and there is no label. It is some kind of swirled cane with a clear glass outer layer. There is quite a bit of blue in this piece only vaguely suggested in most images. Basically, anything that looks black is really some shade of blue and anything that looks white is silver. I got one image in daylight that skews a bit too blue, so true color is a bit less bright than the inset in image #3. No idea of maker or age. There is a tiny bit of wear to the bottom, which is smoothly textured. Maybe Chinese? A couple of vaguely similar pieces I found were identified as Murano, but they were not labeled or signed either. A mystery. A Google Images search brings up mostly actual seashells.

I went to a thrift shop today for the first time in a couple of weeks and they had some pretty good stuff, a very nice Joe Rice paperweight and two very interesting pieces of studio pottery all four things for about the same price. I finally settled on this piece because I have never seen anything like it. It reminds me of a seashell. This shop does a lot of estate purchases, I mean whole estates, so no telling where it came from.

I also stopped at GW today and picked several CDs, all classical, except for a Library of Congress recording of Jelly Roll Morton from the 1930s that has some of the filthiest lyrics, no THE filthiest lyrics, that I have ever heard on a CD. It would make rappers blush. I listened to it for the first time driving home and I am sure that got some looks from nearby cars. $3 well spent.

I don't know who was making these back in the late 1990s, but it is supposed to be a pen holder. They were everywhere back then.

There are still a bunch of them for sale online.
