A friend of mine brought this interesting axle by and ask if I could help him I.D. it for him. I'm turning to the experts here for some help.
64 inches long. Made of wood & Metal.

Can you explain some stuff...pictures aren't very good.. what part is wood? Are there axle shafts or one part that goes all the way through that turns? Where did they find this?
The top or bottom is wood. it's one peace. Axle shafts on each end with one nut on the ends. Found in a Pennsylvania barn.
I am in no way a wagon expert, but I can make sone guesses. I believe this may be a front steering axle for a cart/buggy. The half moon circle piece, looks like a 5th wheel. Look at these 2 links to get an idea what I'm talking about. They are not exactly like your piece, but you'll get the idea..
