Here's a 1930 vintage Empire windmill that I restored. It was ready for the scrap pile when I came upon it, while I was at the Hershey Auto show last week. I intend to run it with one of my miniature steam engines. The windmill is 24" tall and the blades are 7 " in diameter. The water pump at the base really pumps water into a catch trough which returns it to the pump. Empire made these in the early 30's.
I thought that I was going to have to paint the tower due to the rust and corrosion on it, but it was originally nickel plated, and I was able to polish and buff the metal to close to its original sheen. The base and the blade were another story, they were too far gone and I had to repaint then and make a few decals for it.
Very cool. Would be nice to see a before picture along with your story.
Looks amazing, great work!
