This post was prompted by LizzyCGB's camel by Cmielów she recently posted.
I have had this monkey for so long she has became part of the background visual at my place so it was nice to be reminded how good she is.
The Cmielów Porcelain Works is based on an original workshop started in Cmielów in 1790. They developed into porcelain production around the 1820s, and have continued producing high quality porcelain ever since. Their art deco wares are highly collectable.
These very stylised figurines were originally produced in the 1950s and 1960s and were designed by Lubomir Tomaszewski and Mieczyslaw Naruszewicz. The company again started making figures by these two designers in 2004.
I'm not sure if this spider monkey is an early or later production.
I don't mind either way, I just love the style.
21cm long 16cm high
Very cool. How is this not broken!?
I know Kevin!
It's very lanky and fine but I've managed to not get it bashed up by 5 kilo lumps of Japanese glass!!
It has a rattle which is sweet, and I wonder if a plug of clay is inside it from the hole made in the base for gas expansion.
It was common to have rattles in both metal and pottery tchotchkes in countries in Asia and SE Asia. It was intentional. Never heard that custom in Europe, but I like it.
An absolutely beautiful monkey, it's a wonderful shape so lifelike
Very nice for sure. Looks like a Lemur monkey.
Cool as !!!!!
Thanks Jenni, and as Congcu says, yeah, probably a lemur.
I should have known that after laughing at King Julian!!
I can no longer unthink that....
Thanks Congcu, and yes, probably a lemur.
Monkeys are not my specialty clearly.
It is Kev, thanks!
Oh Wow!! I love this!
That is so cool ! love it
Thanks Scott and Mani, glad you like her too!
Hi,racer!Great figure and quite rare in comparison to the rest of Cmielów "zoo" ( buffalo ,penguin, giraffe, panther etc.).All of them fetch very high prices. As far as I know it was designed by Hanna Orthwein in 1958.She was a third member of designer's team in ?mielów.

Thanks Ivonne for the better information. My info came from the net, in English, and I would imagine you have better access to background on the company.
I would love to get some of the other animals. They are wonderful!
Thanks again Ivonne.
