I recently acquired this buffet from a western Philadelphia, PA suburb. I believe it is circa 1920 and am wondering if anyone knows more about the maker. The only markings I see are the apparent model number and stain (or style) on the back of the piece which reads 479S Jacobean in gold stencil. There is also an impressed number “6”. Both stenciled and impressed numbers appear on the backsplash as well as the server/sideboard. (See second pic).

I’m removing the dark stain as I prefer a more arts and craft look with a natural oak finish and visible grain and flecks. The first picture shows my progress thus far, with most of the stain removed.

Jacobean is a style, no such thing as a jocobean stain. I am fixing the pic so that the most important picture, the second one, can be seen better in case someone can identify this maker from the picture. I know I have seen the stamp before but cannot remember where.

Not that my opinion matters but with all the nooks and crannies of the front and legs, removing the stain in really going to be quite a task. It’s really nice as is.

The picture is the “after” in progress still. The original stain was much darker. It’s shellac based so it came off fairly easy with steel wool and alcohol.
