Korean War challenge coin

So I’m a coin collector, and my father thought that he was giving me a buffalo nickel. I did a lot of research and found out that this was one of the first challenge coins ever created. History tells it two different ways, one from World War II and one from Buffalo Bill’s 17th infantry in the Korean War. I love this coin . But not a lot of people have information on it so if anybody has anything to add, I’d be happy to hear it.
