I found this 1940s era cookie jar at Goodwill. The head is a piggy bank with no opening to get coins out so may never have been used for that, since there are no coins in it. The body is the cookie jar. While there are many Shawnee Winnie Pig cookie jars online, I cannot find this particular one with the gold trim therefore cannot speculate a valuation. The bottom has the number 61 and Shawnee USA, and some kind of mark I cannot make out. I would be interested to learn what specific materials this cookie jar bank is made from , whether the bank part is unique to only certain Shawnee cookie jars, as well as patent information.
An article on liveabout.com called "Shawnee Pottery: Facts, Trivia and Collectibles" and under the subsection "Most Popular Shawnee Pieces" has this interesting historical nugget: "Since gold-trimmed jars are always the most sought after, it's interesting to note that most gold trimmed jars were originally seconds or had blemishes. Gold and decals were applied to the jars to "hide" the imperfections. These jars were later sold in specialty shops at a higher price, and of course, now command a much higher price. Today, it appears the sky's the limit when it comes to the rarer gold trimmed, decorated jars. In 2002 a Smiley Pig sold for $6750. at the Kent Mickelson Auction House in Missouri."
