I bought this from a friend today at the flea market. It's a pretty large one. i have 3-4 other ones, but i think this is the best. i was told a long time ago that these are really judged by the quality or character of the animals on them. These were made in the first half of the 20thc in Guatemala. This bowl is just under 10 inches across and 3.75 inches high.
nice and old
thanks kivatinitz!
This has a Ken Edwards style to me, without doubt!!! It must have been around Christmas time, obviously. I know he had a lot of students, but I can't recall if he signed all his pieces. Very nice!
thank you shareurpassion. this is definitely not Ken Edwards, and most likely made before he got started. his work is also very distinctive, but not like Montiel. there's very little green and yellow and more blues and grays.
Interesting. I guess I didn't realize when I saw this that Montiel is a person. Plus the fact that Edwards subjects were not like this. Perhaps KE was inspired by this style...
Montiel is a Guatemalan family.
Oh okay! Thanks for the info. Good to know!
