Here is a 40 year service medal in the original box. I purchased this at one of our in house auctions a while back and trying to find out what the blue ribbon may indicate and also what it may be worth.
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks

Trenchartman, cornflower blue ribbons were used on all service awards for the various branches of service. I don't know why blue was the chosen color. Your 40 year 1st class civil service award with the original presentation case would be valued in the area of $225.00.
WOW! I did not expect it to be worth that much.
Thanks for the information Stepback.

The blue ribbon for long service medals goes back to the pre WWI German States, especially in Prussia which was alway blue on the maps. "Corn Flower Blue" was also the traditional color of Germany. The 40 year civil service medal is also interesting because it recognizes service done before the nazi era which was only 12 years.
also have Nazi 40 yr service medal in original box (as above).
Does it still hold its value?
