The donkey is encased by those beautiful shades of topaz or blues and greens. Very nice piece, love that chunk of glass !~

Unusual object and colour, it took me ages to spot the donkey incased in it. I often wonder how they do that?
The colour is what caught my eye, an odd mix of mint green and turquoise

Thank you Phil for your awesome praise for this piece, something very unusual I just couldn't pass by. It's so interesting how the glassmaker gave an icy arctic look to this sculpture & the cute little donkey is reflected throughout at almost any angle. These green or aqua glass blocks were very popular Swedish designs in the 1970s and featured different animals

Lauren thank you for your super comment about this glass piece, the donkey is actually etched in white or pale grey above the glass so when you touch it you can feel the grooves, he's a charming little fella and seems to be scampering across the ice. The color favors the mint green more I think, but in different light a bluish cast is there too, and the way the sculpture has rough angles it appears to be chipped from an ice block, a very ingenious design

Thanks dear Phil for your always kind words and I am really, really happy that you enjoyed this glass ice block piece, it does have beautiful reflections in the sun from the angular shape & I was very glad to find this unusual (for me) animal design piece to add to my collection. Love donkeys!!

I would so love a donkey, but would need to have two, hate seeing animals on their own.

Thanks jb & Penny for your wonderful comments/love for this Swedish "ice block" with donkey, yes jb it was quite a unique find for me & is really mesmerizing. Penny you're right, a pair of donkeys would be best, they always look a little sad when they're alone & have such beautiful eyes

I had never heard of this glass factory before Jenni, and isn't it a great piece!
I love donkeys too but even as a slab of crafted icy glass this is a stunner.

Thanks Karen & Trey for the love for this Swedish glass piece it's so kind of you both & always gratefully appreciated

Karen thank you so much for your super praise, apparently these green glass "ice blocks" with etched animals were very popular with several glassmakers including V Lindstrand. Hovmantorp is a Swedish town signed on many of them, and this artist Strand worked for many co's including SEA and Stromberg, invented the engraving technique used for this donkey - you can see some of his work here on CW by putting Strand glass in the search box, where a collector called rebessin is a real Swedish glass expert as he, his father & grandfather were all glassmakers in Sweden and knew many of these artists personally

This is made from cullet which is waste glass, so a perfect example of early recycling :)
