This figurine is about 3.25" long x 3" high x 2.5" wide. The bottom is flat and has no marking but a bit of texture which appears to be intentional. It has a label which reads "UCCI Japan" or "UCTCI Japan" on the back. This figurine is red ware but has porcelain accents; a robe, belt, a piece of jewelry in her hair, etc., which vary in color. There is very fine detail, for example it is possible to count her fingers and toes.

I very much like red ware pottery but have never seen it decorated like this. It was only $.79, so it was a no brainer for me.

UCTCI exported some pretty interesting pottery in the 1960s and 1970s. I have not been able to determine what UCTCI stood for (UC Trading Company Inc.?). Kiln that made this pottery not known.

Thanks for your comment, Jenni! She is too cute. This exporter used a kiln that did some fantastic work.

I have a whole series of these sort of redware figurines packed away, I really like them.
I tried to find out which kiln but never got far.
In Australia they were often sold by Gempo.

Thanks for your comments, Karen! They are pretty cool, aren't they? Amazing work. They also sold a large series of very accomplished figurines of animals. Not red ware, but very well done, too.

Thanks for loving my Japanese figurine ho2cultcha and Karen!
