This is just a small percentage of all my stubby screwdrivers. I've been looking for a long box, about a yard long and 5 inches wide to make a display for them. That's assuming i can find the rest of them. They aren't where i thought they should be. These are ones i found just in the last month or so. I've been collecting them for around 5 years now. Do you collect anything bizarre and unique? I collect wooden boxes, old tools, scissors, animal figurines, masks, paintings, pottery - of many kinds, etc... i've been collecting since i was 10 - mostly stuff i found on the beach. I would cover my walls with the things i collected and i still do it now - 50 years later. I wonder what it is that drives us to collect things?

My first-glance would look something like one of these, reasonably common old military ammo crates. It's about the right length, a little too tall maybe (it holds VHS videocassettes perfectly, though) and whatever you did (or not) to its hinged lid might be fun too. Add a little string of subtle LED lights, and you'd potentially still get an extra 'shelf' or two on it for other fun stuff...?? :-) :-) :-)

Again offhand, I could maybe see it lined with a (non original) row of 1x2" on its inside back, appropriately drilled to allow all your stubbies to sit there with their handles and blades mebbe visible...?

As to the inevitable question of "why do we DO this to ourselves?" Once more I'll defer to the usually obvious KISS principle answer..."because it makes us feel happy when we aren't otherwise happy...?"

I collect dust...just kidding! As you know Pete, our collections often parallel each other's. I love the old tools too..I have a large brace drill collection. Not as easy to display, but the garage header is the perfect place. I like to reflect on how many people had the tools or what was built with them. Could be anything?

Those stubby screwdrivers make a great collection! I have only one, with a bright orange handle, & it's my favourite. Most of my tools I got from my late father, so there's some nice memories there. I think my favourites are a Stanley retractable tape measure (I remember playing with it as a kid, using it to measure my room, etc) & a couple of old boxwood rulers.
As to collecting, over the course of my life I've collected a lot of different stuff, & it seems to me that they were always things I thought were cool & interesting. Just seeing lots of the same thing, with all the possible variations, has always given me a "buzz".
That's why I really enjoy seeing other people's collections, even if it isn't stuff I'm into personally! It's all eye candy to me... :-)

Stubby screwdrivers are an essential member of the toolbox because of their ability to tighten and loosen in small spaces where longer screwdrivers fear to tread. A very cool and useful collection!

Thank you Falcon. one of these days, i'll get all my stubbies together for some pics. i have somewhere between 75 and 100, maybe more of them. my favorite ones are painted wood which show some nice wear and patina.

dav - i collect a lot of dust too, for sure! lol!
