Duncan Phyfe 19th Century Federal Mahogany Game Table Connecticut Tercentenary 1810/1820

19th century antique Federal period mahogany game table. The table was exhibited at the Connecticut Tercentenary & Town of Bristol Sesqui-centennial Celebration that spanned about one week in the summer of 1935. The people of Bristol country all came together with their most important historical objects and the collection was properly documented & cataloged. The orignal booklet & accompanying photo (pictured above). Bristol is best known for it’s extensive history in clock making and was home to many highly skilled individuals. Much of the country relied on Bristol’s clocks and they were sold and traded throughout every major city at the time. Many horologists in the area had connections with New York City where this table was made CA 1810/1820. The exhibition booklet has this listed as owned by August Bechstedt and bears his grand son Clarence’s signature on the label. The seller states that they have handled Duncan Phyfe furniture in the past with the same convex drawer box and have seen it numerous times on his pier tables. The table has a bold grain mahogany veneered column with a carved plinth & 4 acanthus carved lion paw feet. The table has caster wheels and measures 36” wide 18” deep x 30” tall. When the gaming surface is flipped open the top measures 36” wide x 36” deep. When the top is swiveled the table box can be used for storage with 2 1/4” of useable height.
