This was picked up at an antique mall. I thought it looked interesting but not sure what it would be used for. Any ideas??

Oh my heavens, that is it dav2no1. It’s actually a pretty cool tool. I gave it to a friend as a gift, now I would like one for myself.
I still like your idea too, AnythingObscure.
      Thanks for your responses!!

Even if not specifically meant to do so, I still bet it'd be a good spaghetti server, at least before the ladle of sauce got added to the dinner plate, esp. if there's a spring somewhere in the handle to let it also work like tongs...??? <lol>

Happy 2023 everybody, may it somehow treat any/all of us around here (and ours) better than 2022 did.

      :-) :-) <hugs><hearts> :-) :-)
