Vintage Impressionist Impasto Painting

I acquired this vintage painting sometime ago.... The frame was either damaged or missing... It measures around 30 by 30 in. The second photo shows the signature which is illegible but etched into the impasto. Based on aging of the canvas, I'm thinking it dates from the '70s or '80s?. Just wondered if anyone could suggest the general location being portrayed? One can zoom in on the small buildings scattered on the hillside. And of course, if anyone can decipher the signature that would be more than welcome! Thanks for your comments.
