This Chinese (?) temple jar is about 10" high x 6" widest diameter. It is crudely hand painted and is not marked on the bottom. The bottom of the lid and rim of the jar are matte finished and the jar seals very well. Care was taken to make sure the fit of the lid was tight. I am sure that this is a newer jar and probably meant to be used.
There are four different botanical designs around the vase and a very busy decoration over the entire vase. It is not great art but captures the eye.
There is no red color on the jar. Something in the room was causing a red reflection, but I could not figure out what it was. I may redo these images, since the resolution is not great.
I have been looking for an example of the blue on white Chinese pottery for my collection, even a new one, that is hand painted and a decent example of the style. Still, I was surprised to find one that is apparently meant to be used. I think I paid around $4 for this with tax.
I originally called this a "ginger jar" but after some research, determined it is actually a "temple jar".

Beautiful ginger jar, love the different designs
Thanks for your comments, Jenni! It is rather crudely decorated, but lots to look at! I found an interesting little used table from Target which protects it from being knocked over.
