This is an interesting old leather pouch / wallet that appears to fasten to a saddle. It measures 9.5” x 5” x 1” . The inside lining on the outer pocket appears to be a thin muslin with the smell of old silk. I did find an embroidered Chinese frog fastener inside one of the pockets. The metal on the inside pouch fastener has green patina on it. Can anyone tell me from what period they think this is from? My first instincts tell me very early 20th century. Do you think the strap fastens on to horse’s saddle in some way?
I can’t tell you anything about it
other than it certainly has a lot of character
The strap on the back is to put your hand through to carry it.
While today the modern example is considered a large wallet, these were considered pocket purses or hand-books.
The design is later Art Nouveau bordering on Art Deco. I'd posit late 1920s.
