This yunomi is about 4.25" and 3.25" wide at the top, so probably about 3.5" at its widest point. It is signed indistinctly, perhaps "SV"? Well made and glazed with one small flaw in the glaze. Otherwise perfectly made and colored.

The color, deep blue gray, is washed out in my photos. I used artificial light, so may try again when we get a sunny day.

I found this, probable American homage to a Japanese yunomi, while cleaning up my home office. I do not remember ever seeing it before and have no idea when or where I acquired it. I probably picked it up in a thrift shop in the last two or three years, since that is about the time the my interest in Japanese pottery started. I am certain that I paid very little for it and was quite pleased to find it (again?). I plan to christen it tonight with some Geikkikan sake.

You have a wooden box for that celebration? A masu..

I love the granite type look of it

Actually, I do not have a masu in my collection, dav2no1. I have been looking for an older one.... I filled this yunomi with sake to christen it. That was a lot of sake.

Thanks, Jenni! The glaze on this Cup is quite complex, I think, not the work of an amatuer . I have spent a goodly amount of time staring at it.

Very well made indeed. Amazing to look just at some of the simpler pottery to realize just how beautiful it is. I just found the stamps that started my collection and I realize I got some that I have no clue where they came from !~

They have certainly been influential in world pottery design but as we know Kevin that's because Japanese pottery is exceptional.
I hope you didn't get a sake zutsu!

Thanks for your comments, PhilDMorris! I agree, it amazing the complexity that is often put into deceptively simple pieces.

Thanks for your comments, Karen! Agree, the Japanese are serious about their pottery! Not sure what you mean by "sake zutsu"!

Thanks for your comments, ho2cultcha! I am very much looking forward to seeing your cups! You find some great stuff where you live!

Thanks for loving my cup Falcon61, ho2cultcha, Karen, Kevin, Blammoammo, fortapache, Cisum, jbingham95, jscott0363 and Vynil33rpm!
