Finally got to Wellington and visited Tony's Realglass Studio there. The furnace has unfortunately been turned off but it was great to meet him and talk glass.
He also still had a few pieces for sale and the above is one of his Urban Glass series.
As you can see it's an unusual shape, Tony blows it into a mould with small metal shapes stacked on the inside, when he pulls it out they all drop off and you are left with the deep patterns on the side. Unlike a lot of his earlier blue glass that was much darker coloured using cobalt this uses copper nitrate for that beautiful blue colour.
Quite a big piece 260mm high and the longest side is 170mm.
This is very cool.
Kuepfer had such a large and varied output.
