Sherman Necklace, 1950's
This is a Sherman necklace at the entry level for a collector. The only things making it better than that are the extra large stones that are used, that are rare and hard to find. The extra large stones are very beautiful.
It has the oval Sherman signature and on the back of the necklace (one of Sherman's early signatures) and there are 2 tiny dents as if someone was trying to push out 1 of the large stones at one time and then decided not to. Other than that it has 2 matching earrings as part of a set, and is in near perfect condition. I got this about just over a decade ago when I was starting my collection.
Wow! Sherman's clear rhinestone pieces always dazzle, and large stones like these are positively luminous -- they make you feel like you're gazing into a deep pool of pristine water. The design of this setting immediately draws the attention to those brilliant large stones, nestling them among other lovely ones of various sizes.
I appreciate the stunning impact of Sherman's coloured pieces, but there's an elegance to the clear ones that I always enjoy, too, especially the older ones that often have a more retro, Art Deco flavour. This set is just so beautiful!
Supremely elegant early Sherman necklace, a regal beauty in every way - & gorgeous earrings too
Thank you rhineisfine for the comments which was a pleasure to read. I agree with what you said and you said it a lot better than my attempt to write for this piece. The clear ones also take a time trip through Hollywood in the 50's !~
Really a beautiful necklace. Each of those Large stones are topped with a bow as if to say “All wrapped up, here you go!” Many collectors covet the coloured pieces but I think all those wonderful clear pieces stand on their own.
It's exquisite Phil, you started your collection at a high point and have never gone lower.
I love the photo staging: so stylish.
Thank you Jenni, most appreciated !~
The logic of clear crystals not being as "favored" as colored has, in my opinion, no logic at all! The clear crystals are like old Hollywood. They are almost always older than the colored pieces, and therefore, should be coveted because they will be harder and harder to find! Also clear crystals, sadly go dark or dead, if not cared for so to find a set like this is a triumph! Around 70 years old and looks showcase new!! And yes, rhineisifne said it so well as the first thing my eyes went to were the large crystals! How they jump out at you!
Once again you amaze us Phil! Why did you wait so long to show this to us? Lol
Thank you racer4four, love to you, Phil.
So beautiful..
Thank you Eileen, you are a national treasure at all times !~
