Remember these when at school in the 1950s, they were on a hall stand in the hallway by the front door. The hall stand had a large mirror with a draw underneath and was mounted on 4 legs, there were hooks around the side of the mirror with clothes brushes hanging from the hooks. The smaller brush was inside the draw. My father got rid of the hall stand when we moved house in 1964 and kept some of the brushes, the hall stand was to big to fit In the hall way of our new house, notice the hook on the larger brush in last photo.

Warm and wonderful family history of the brushes.
I wonder if it was a common practice to keep the brushes handy alongside the mirror so you could inspect yourself and correct any lint problems before you went out in public? That’s a great idea!

A few decades ago when I only wore dresses/skirts, I kept a full length mirror in the garage so I had one last look at myself to check if my slip was showing or if I had a run in my stockings. :-)

MichaelIn544, your brushes and thoughts of proper grooming really cracked open my memory vault! ;^D
