These 2 trivet have a nice geometric pattern. The one on the left has a small break, but it's barely noticeable. The one on the right has shoulders to keep whatever item from slipping off.

THE TRIVET
A trivet is a tripod used to elevate pots from an open flame and are also used to keep warm objects such as a serving dish, teapot, etc from damaging a table. The word trivet comes from Latin tripes meaning "tripod". The three legged design is ideal for uneven surfaces...think crude wood dining tables.

MADE IN CHINA?
Although modern trivets became popular popular as gifts, for kitchen use and as wall decoration in the 1950s-1980s, they go way back. As far back as the 2nd century BCE...In the tomb of the Chinese ruler Zhao Mo, they found several metal trivets that had been used by him during his lifetime.
