I would like to appeal to the extensive knowledge of the members of CW.
I bought a bottle and at first you would think this is a Chinese Snuff Bottle. Yet there are things about this bottle that make me doubt.

First of all, the size and weight. The bottle is already 9cm tall without the stopper (should it have a stopper?) and weighs almost 200gr.

I also have doubts about the material used. Is this milk glass or porcelain? Despite the fact that this bottle consists of quite thick glass, the light shines through.

The shape of the bottle could be of an Asian snuff bottle, but the design of the decoration is maybe not.

Who can shed some light on this and tell me more.

If it is Chinese then it would react to the touch test ….. hold it in your fingers, put it down and then rub those fingers together … if they feel a bit greasy then it is probably Chinese. A test shown to be in Portland Oregon in the 80’s.

Other than that the decoration and gilding looks European to my eye.

You are right. There is a good chance that this snuff bottle comes from Bavaria Germany. There are many glassblowers and artists in this region who make these kind of bottles.
