Karl Ens big porcelain papagei, for Karen

Friday 03 March 2023 we bought this hughe Papagei to Belén Caro and payed about 50 U$. It measures about 40 cm high and the base is 16 x 12 cm. That from Karen perfil picture is a sulphur-crested cockatoo (Cacatua galerita) a relatively large white cockatoo found in wooded habitats in Australia, New Guinea, and some of the islands of Indonesia. They can be locally very numerous, and highly intelligent bird. The one we purchased is pink and gray elegant set of colours though like the pink panther it does not exist in nature.
It has the Karl Ens mark hand made, and the mold number (4967) and the copy number (9) were incised while the clay was wet. The sculptor who design the mold was most probably Arthur Storch in 1930 from the web page in German the link https://ankauf-porzellan.de/ens-volkstedt-ankauf.htm. It looks Art Deco. In the web, I found only one that has this high, most of the offered are about 24 cm and some of 33 cm.
History of the Karl Ens porcelain factory
More than 110 years ago, in 1899, Karl Ens Sr. founded the porcelain factory, of which he remained the owner until his son Paul Ens took over in 1910. It starts with the production of luxury porcelain (porcelain figurines, groups, centerpieces, vases and bowls). Arthur Storch (1870-1947) and Berthold Boess (1877-1957) should be mentioned as artistic modellers. As an autodidact, Karl Ens has worked his way up to become a pioneer and role model for hundreds of porcelain painters from the Thuringian Forest thanks to his art of drawing and good observation of nature. His son continued this tradition as a draftsman, etc. illustrator. When the company owner was no longer artistically active, great artists such as Anton Büschelberger (1869-1934) and Josef Pallenberg (Ddf.), who also became famous with his hunting stag bronzes, for the ENS manufactory. They created a number of good sculptures at a time when other porcelain factories weren't even thinking about having an art department.
