I bought it a year and a half ago and this one had defeated me although a friend here on CW suggested it might be ... well I'll leave that for the moment. She might remember it !!! I really don't even know what it might have looked like if it had a metal mount ..... Is it Czech or is it English ??? It might even glow ... my black light doesn't work anymore !!! LOL !!!
Mystery solved with a direction towards Stevens & Williams. Thanks to a series of CW members including IRONLACE, KIVATINITZ, INKY and to RUSSELL117 for the 'Osiris' detail. I don't think it is Osiris though ... my hope is that it an earlier form before the Patented Osiris range.
Two of John Northwood's inventions of 1885 & 1886 involved on this piece. The first in 1885 relates to a patent for his “pull up machine” and a year later a patent for his "crimping device".
H : 6.5 cm or 2.5"
W : 15 cm or 6 "
Absolutely gorgeous piece, the swirl design & zipper top are wonderful
Stunning! I am pretty sure this will glow, going by that custardy colour, & you can see the green tinge around the edge.
My thoughts are English...box pleat crimp + Northwood pull - up pattern = Stevens & Williams, I believe!
Kevin is very interesting and beautiful. It reminded me of guilloche work on metal. It probably has uranium in it and is probably Steven & William. The ruffled crested so ordered and the swirl together with the thickness of the glass (sure it is interesting the change of color with different lamp sources, sun or led) made me think about this possibility.
Beautiful piece that’s shape is unique as the colors.I look forward to someone identifying as I appreciate the history you provide on the pieces you post.
Highly unusual and I love all the extra work it took to make this beauty !~

I agree with IronLace that it's Stevens & Williams, Stourbridge. I think the pattern is called 'Osiris' and their patented pull-up machine assisted in creating this distinctive design. Made in mid 1880s. John Northwood was the designer, from memory.
