These hashioki (chopstick rests) are about 1.5" in diameter x .5" high and weigh around 10 ounces, so are fairly beefy. The design was etched into the tops, before glazing. There is a generic Kutani mark on the back of each one, which dates from the 1930s to the 1960s.

This set violated one of my basic conditions for collecting hashioki. It is a full set of five, it is marked, but it did not come with any kind of box. I do not buy unmarked, partial sets or unboxed sets. This set currently resides in a baggy with each rest wrapped in a paper towel. I bought it because it is a great set, in perfect condition and has the extra benefit of feeding jscott0363's bunny fetish.

Instead of bombarding my CW friends, with a barrage of hashioki from my collection, I will start rationing my posts on them. The three glass hashioki I posted are pretty exceptional for various reasons and I do not have many glass examples, so got most of them out of the way first. Proceeding to ceramic versions, I am getting my unboxed set out of the way and will next post one of my mystery studio pottery sets.

Hey CW! Maybe we will eventually need a Hashioki category since they come in glass, pottery, metal, wood, etc. I have quite a few of these!

      These are super cute hashioki!
I hadn't realized before today that you're a hashioki fan. So am I :) We surely complement each other, as I usually buy singles and avoid sets (except when they're really irresistible, and usually when each item in the set is a little different).
As far as I'm concerned, you can bomb the forum with your amazing hashioki :) and I would love to see a category for them alone.

Thanks for your comments, rhineisfine! I got interested in hashioki a few years ago when I added some glass chopsticks to my collection. About that time, my camera died and I never got around to posting the chopsticks until now and that revived my interest in hashioki.

You can have the singles and I will take the box sets!

I will ask CW to make a hashioki category. Makes sense to do so as they are made of so many materials and do not fit into just one of the existing Japanese categories. ho2cultcha has posted quite a few examples, too, so there is a growing number of them on this site.

Thanks for your comments, Karen! Yes, these grabbed my attention as soon as I saw them!

I have asked CW to create a Hashioki category where, glass, pottery, wood, metal, etc., can be put!

Thanks for loving my Kutani hashioki jbingham95, dav2no1, kivatinitz, Jenni, Karen, Leelani, fortapache, rhineisfine and Kevin!
