I haven't done much treasure hunting of late so I figure maybe it's time to start up again. Our local Restore had been closed during an after the pandemic due to mismanagement and other legal problems. So I decided to start searching there again once they reopened and lo' and behold I found this mold just in time for Easter. Seems to be fairly old but there are no numbers or marks anywhere. All the Griswold pieces seem to have No. 866 /922 stamped into the base on the front or on the lift handles on the side. So there in lies the mystery. Is this a "Griswold" cast iron mold just early and unmarked, another company or a reproduction. -Mike-

very nice and a lucky finding but it must not be easy to use it to make a cake....do you know how it could be used?
    9. mikelv85 mikelv85, 2 years ago
Hi kivatinitz thanks for the "love" and comment. Actually I watched a video on YouTube yesterday. You have to use a dense pound cake recipe so the head and the ears don't break off. The chef even embedded a skewer to support the neck and toothpicks to reinforce the ears. I thought you buttered and floured both halves and filled them with batter then baked them separately then put them together. Only problem was one half has holes the batter would drip out. I felt dumb when she just put the top on and said the cake will rise to fill the other half and the holes are for the steam to escape...so that's how it's used. :)

Happy Easter Scott... thank you. The past year had me busy with my parent's estate. Hard to believe it's been a year already since they passed. Seems like yesterday still. Trying to get back into the swing of things. :)

Interesting info about Restore….the one in my area also closed. I need to see if they have reopened.

Thanks for the "love" and comment Watchsearcher. Yes, ours was supposedly using money and influence to set up Habitat homes for family and friends that really didn't qualify.
