The above four pictures show some of the unique precious metals used in the two P-39 Airacobra Brooches / Commendations. --- In the manufacture of "both" brooches, different precious metals were used on the same brooch. --- Tap on each of the above pictures to magnify for better viewing. -------- Pictures 1, 2, and 3, are photographs of the Bell P-39 Airacobra diamond and platinum brooch that was presented to Larry Bell of The Bell Aircraft Company in June 1942, at the beginning of World War Two, by His Royal Majesty King George VI of The United Kingdom / Great Britain. ---- Picture #1 is a close-up of the "Cobra" snake -- made of solid platinum. ---- Picture # 2 is a close-up of the attaching pin hinge, showing the use of a yellow gold pin as the connecting / pivoting pin. ---- Picture # 3 is a close-up of the attaching pin clasp, showing a yellow gold pin used to lock the attaching pin into a closed and open position. -------- Note: The main attaching pin for the brooch is made of platinum. This pin runs from front right wing tip to front left wing tip. ------------------ Picture # 4 is a top view photograph of the Bell P-39 Airacobra - Silver Bullet - GVll - Brooch, presented to Larry Bell in July of 1945 at the end of World War Two by His Royal Majesty King George VI, of The United Kingdom / Great Britain. -- This photograph shows parts made of "platinum", Such as the propeller hub with 3 blades and shaft ( nose gun ). --- the exhaust manifolds on both sides of the main body --- the "Notable Air Intake" located on top behind the cock pit area. -- Note: the main attaching pin is solid white gold and runs from tail to nose. ------------------------- It is important to note that -- different precious metals were used the manufacture of " both" of the two brooches / commendations, and is very unique for the manufacturing time period of 1942 to 1945, during World War Two. ------ Note: yellow gold pins were used to attach parts in both of the P-39 Airacobra brooches / commendations, even though both brooches are generally white in color. ------------ Also "Google" Parts 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, and 11, The Bell P-39 Airacobra Brooches of Larry Bell founder of The Bell Aircraft Company, for more historical and educational information concerning these two brooches / commendations left behind by Lawrence Dale Bell, Founder of The Bell Aircraft Company, today known as "Bell" or "Bellflight". ------- For comments or questions of a historical or educational nature, contact - Wayne Hugh Long - via email - whlong2715@gmail.com.
