I bought this outstanding lemonade jug set an antique fair. I have seen some custard glass but can find no other to match it. The jug has a clear celery handle, is wrythen with three dimples. It has a polished broken pontil under and a square lip with a pourer. I have four glasses matching….a very impressive set. It is quite large and there is no damage. Please can anyone tell me the maker and age. I thought it might be Fenton, Stourbridge Stevens and Williams, Webb, Whitefriars and I don’t know because I can’t find anything similar. Stevens and Williams made a decanter with similar wrythen pattern….but custard Yellow??!! The jug is 8” in height x 8” wide including handle and the glasses are 3 3/4” . I think it is antique. Help me if you can please!!

I believe Welz, but not everyone agrees on these. Certainly don't rule out Bohemian. See https://www.collectorsweekly.com/stories/79646-large-cased-spatter-glass-pitcher-franz

That bright yellow is very Welz. If you have a black light, test them & it is likely you'll see an orange glow due the a cadmium content which is often found in items of bthis opaque yellow. Great find!

Here is a small vase by Welz in the same colour with a similar ribbed pattern:

This is definitely Welz production in Cadmium yellow. The pitcher shape is found with and without the indents, but with the same ribbing. It is also found with both a round and a rectangular rim like yours has. On a glass safety note, picking up old glass by the handle is not recommended... :-)

The most common disagreement on the attribution comes from a small crowd of people who deny most of the Welz research which has been done in the last 15 years. Their claim is generally that it is Harrach production, but they are unable to support that with any robust evidence of any type. Also, the ground but not highly polished pontil mark on the pitcher is commonly seen on Welz production, while most Harrach examples have much higher quality polishing done on the pontil area.

Here is a link to about a dozen examples in Welz decors, some having the same side indents, and with both round and rectangular rims:

I would add that these are Welz production ca 1900.

I'm very happy to say that the jug, extreme right, middle row is mine. I'd be happier still if I could find another, any décor would do!

That is certainly a rich yellow!
