I actually saw this at GW a few days ago and passed on it. These pieces were typically given away at carnivals and fairs as prizes during the 30's and 40's. I saw a cabinet full of chalkware at our antique mall and their prices so I decided to go back for it. They are hardly the best quality but that's part of the charm I guess . The animal and character figures seem to be the most sought after though. This 11" tall piece with the basket weave and high relief pears does show up in many color combos from garish to down right ugly. However, this vase having been done in more natural colors is much easier on the eyes. It's a wonder they survive at all. Very fragile and getting them wet is a big no-no. Some paint loss from handling and chipping is inevitable. This one even has a few air bubbles in the plaster that have broken through. Attractive in an odd way -Mike-
Very pretty chalkware vase with alot of charm - the pears, basketweave & double handles are lovely features
