This was a super find I picked up today! Just decided at random to drop into a local antiques centre & was rewarded with this awesome piece of Victorian art glass. The saleperson told me that I was the second person to look at the vase today, so lucky for me that particular customer ended up choosing another item. I am a big fan of thorn vases & this is a fine example of the style.
It is made from a single layer of clear pale blue glass with a band of opalescence & measures 22.5 cm tall, 4 cm across the peaked top rim, & 8.5 cm across the applied clear base, which has a rough pontil mark.
The vase has rustic thorn pull out decoration, & the clear base features a pressed daisy head pattern.
Possibly English origin, circa 1880s - 1890s.
Love the blue and white!! Beautiful vase!
Much appreciated, SEAN68!
Yes the blue is a bit different and I love it!
Many thanks, Bernard! This one definitely stands out & makes a statement!
I think I'm going to have to do an updated photo shoot of my thorn vases sometime...
I must get out more! You have had some good finds recently and this is another great example of Victorian era glass. Opalescent blue is one of my favourite color ways.
Much appreciated, Russell117!
Yes, the opalescent blue is really nice for this style of vase, it highlights the thorns especially well.
