    Wood Carved Foo Dogs

    Approximately 10" on the 3" base.
    The base is 6" long x 5" wide

    My sister and I were at an estate sale recently and she picked up these two foo dogs. They appeared to be hand carved. Very unusual as they have separate bases with carvings

    I asked Waki to take a look and he said they could be 1880 to 1910 in his opinion. He said he doesn't like foo dogs, but thought these were nice. So they must be good! He pointed out the carving details including the spider like tail carving.

      Fantastic find!, I've got a couple of mismatched ceramic ones, they were all alone in second hand store, likley their original mate was broken at some point, so now they have each other, and the odd pair fit right in! Love the carved wood, and the bases are very beautiful too. Seems they'd be worth more due to hand crafted and sculpted. Very nice!

      These are lovely examples. I don't think that the bases are original. The statues seem to have more age than the bases.

      Thanks for the comments. The bases have heavy patina on them. There are plenty of examples with foo dogs on similar style wood pedestals.
