    Hello all,

I have come here today and have put up one of two Napier Necklaces I found in hopes of getting a better idea of them than I currently have. I have done days worth of online reading, researching, fact checking and study and I have yet to comfortably give a date or dates close to the time from when this and my other necklace comes from both look some what similar as far as the shape of the pendant after that they are completely different I am pretty certain the pendants on both are made of enamel and I have found no other markings on them expect for the two you see in the photos one script Napier with copyright symbol on the clasp and one box letter Napier with copyright symbol. Seeing both of these as I found out from my study was a fairly common thing Napier did thus making it all the more difficult to date them. So I examined the clasp and studied up on this as well on both necklaces it appears they have déployant clasps or now known as fold over clasps but I was unable to find around what time periods they were most popular or if these clasps are a sign the necklaces may be more modern. Anyway if anybody with better knowledge of Napier jewelry would be willing to give me some advice and perhaps a few things to know in making dating Napier easier and all jewelry really. I have gotten quite good with several different styles and there time periods and also very good at spotting anything mid-century usually anyway lol. Plus I am more of a Coro and Trifari man myself so I know much more about them then I do Napier. Anyway thank you to anybody who is able to assist.

To me, not a jewelry expert..style looks like 1980s..and that's consistent with searches..believe they went out of business in 1999 and taken over by someone else..

Beautiful Napier necklace. If you want to know more about Napier, a good illustrated reference book is The Napier Co by Melinda Lewis. She also answers questions about Napier online if you want to send a photo of your piece she probably could i.d. for you (just google search for more info, she's on a lot of jewelry sites)

Go to "researching costume jewelry makers marks" by CJCI ( Costume Jewelry Collectors International) and you can learn lots about designer marks. For instance the mark in Mistral font with the copyright was first used in 1965, the same font was also used in the early 1990's WITHOUT the copyright mark. Hopefully you can find info on your lovely pieces, this is a resource heavily used by collectors. In fact, Melinda posted some new info on Napier there! Good Luck :)
