This art glass piece is 8" high x 3.5" top diameter x 3" bottom diameter. It is signed "K Hartman '73" on the bottom. It has a very rough, snapped pontil. Not quite a vase and not quite a goblet.... It think this was an awkward attempt to make one or the other, or neither. I am not certain. Lots of small bubbles in the glass, like modern day Spanish glass. It has a small, handwritten paper tag glued to the base which notes the signature and date. Possibly a student work from John Myers' glass program which was started at Illinois State University in 1970.
This is fairly early in the American Studio Glass movement (1973). I have not been able to identify this artist, though. David Hartman was active at the same time, but his work was already much more sophisticated or would soon be so.
I paid $3 for this at a thrift shop today. Someone was just ahead of me in looking at it but they put it back on the shelf and I snagged it. I try to pick up any late 1960s or early 1970s signed American studio art glass that I find that is inexpensive.
Another great find..
Thanks for your comment, dav2no1! One of these days, I am going to send CW links to John Myers of all of my signed 1970s art glass found in Central Illinois.
