Just digging through the 5 full drawers of brooches and I found this large baroque pearl piece. Don't believe I ever posted it. Figured it wasn't marked as most of my pieces are not. Lo and behold it was marked "Regency" It's 2.5 L x 1.5" W the 3 large pear shaped pearls sure do look real, maybe freshwater. The surrounding stones are still clear and brilliant. -Mike-

The history of American costume jewelry brand Regency began in New York City in the 1950s. Founded by the Polowitz family who owned Regina Novelty Company, which ceased to exist in 1973. Due to the short period of its existence (1950s – 1973), the company did not create many jewelry collections. Accordingly, all Regency creations are a good find for collectors of vintage costume jewelry, the price of which grows every year.
Traditionally recognizable classic style of Regency is always royal! Faithful to this direction throughout its twenty-year existence, the favorite motif of Regency bijoux was a butterfly, made in bright unexpected shades and spectacular forms. Also, many decorations have leafy and floral motifs with the rich use of silver plating and high-quality rock crystal in contrasting or complementary color combinations.
Noteworthy, renewed in 1973, Regency trademark owned by W. Bell & Co., Inc. ceased to exist in 1995.

Regency was a better firm than Coro for example in that they used good prongs in their designs on the rhinestones, instead of glue. The large pearl shape stones helps this piece with a great decoration factor. Later on other firms favoured glue and some used fake prongs which only went upwards and would break if used. Great example of Regency, and a wonderful find !~

Sophisticated elegance, a super stunning brooch that lives up to its regal name. I have one of the Regency butterflies in teal & blue, after posting it I noticed your gorgeous 'Gems of Costume Jewelry' book excerpts post & never knew it was a book piece :)
