Moon Rabbit Nodders

I purchased these nodders several years back and, at the time, I found some good information on dating these, specifically about when steel springs were used. What I'm finding online now isn't terribly helpful. They appear to be paper mache but also wonder if they're a heavy duty chalkware or bisque, or a combination of materials. The springs are steel. No identifying marks.

We had a fair amount of German Christmas decorations growing up and they have the same feel to them, but, egad, I think I remember seeing a made in China sticker when I purchased them. If so, I probably took them off. I just can't can't remember. Dang diddly. Any ideas?
