The first painting is from my collection. Unsigned. Oil on paper glued to wood panel. 16 cm X 22 cm. The second painting is by Simon Johannes van Douw (ca. 1630 - ca. 1677). Oil on canvas. 45 cm X 55 cm. I am, of course, NOT postulating that he painted mine too. But there is a strange resemblance, don't you think ?
Beautiful painting. I agree the elements in their composition are similar. I would say some sort of literary connection. Maybe allegorical or a scene from an opera, play or the bible. Something that was a popular subject at the time.
