This is old with lots of wear on the base. The lid rotates or can be completely removed by unscrewing the metal bolt. I have puzzled over this one for years????

      Interesting. What is the material?

If glass, perhaps it's a frog for flowers. But the lid doesn't make sense for it to be that.

If plastic, it reminds me of those old lucite coin banks I had as a kid.

      Hope you find out.

It is glass, it has six teardrop shaped small wells. Th lid has a tear drop shaped cut out, also glass, that rotates to open a single well. Thank you for your interest and help. Hope I find an answer too. ????

Here's a listing for a metal ink well.
