This is a neat bargain I found on eBay AU.
I've not seen much of this type of glass available here, so this was a good opportunity to pick up a nice example of Scottish art glass by Vasart. I have quite a lot of Scottish paperweights by associated maker Strathearn & a few by Perthshire.
This vase is made from cased yellow glass shading to dark grey spatter with a band of multicoloured cane pieces in between, & measures 18 cm tall & 11 cm across the top rim. The vase is marked on the base with an embossed mark of a leaping salmon, which dates it to the 1960s - 70s era. I tried to take a photo of the mark but it didn't come out, so will have another try...
To me this vase has a look from an earlier time, & it works well with 19th & early 20th century art glass. Currently displayed between a pair of Welz spatter glass vases where it looks pretty good!
I can honestly say I have never seen a Vasart or Monart piece in Aus.
Well found.
Some clever change in decor through this piece and I love that wide mouth.
Thanks so much, Karen - yes, I felt pretty lucky to find this!
