I got this Mattel Beany doll at an antique shop several years ago. I had it for a few years before I noticed that his hands are on backwards!! His left hand is on the right and right on the left. I have researched his condition but no answers. He is in good condition, from the 1960's and loved his friend Cecil! He may be a one of a kind as he appears to have come from the manufacturer this way. I can't see where he has been altered in any way! Must be from the Land of Misfits!!!

Yep, the factories make mistakes sometimes. I don't think that will increase the value, unless ol' Beany becomes really hot. But he's in great shape and will be a nice addition to a doll collection.

I hear that. I have an older non-talking version, and still it's not worth much. I didn't pick him up to be rich so it's all good, it's a fun toy.

I like your doll. The yellow hair has striking appeal. What is the name of your doll? How old is he?Does he have any brothers?(joking).

I had a Beany Boy just like this when I was a kid in the 60s!
You pulled the string and he said various things, wish mine hadn't gotten so
messed up over the years. Backwards hands huh? Weird!

Beany & Cecil was my favorite cartoon as a kid. Those two along with Cap'n Jack aboard their ship the Leakin' Lena most often battled Dishonest John . You can see some of the cartoons on Youtube. Beany is missing the propeller for his beanie but otherwise looks great. I have a Mattel Cecil, the seasick sea serpent by Mattel with original box and he still talks when you pull his string. They like Rocky & Bullwinkle took their humorous puns to a new low.

Some guy down at the factory probably did it on purpose ;)
People wish their old toys wouldn't have got so beat up, but that's what they were for, playing with. Who ever thought as a kid about what kind of shape to leave it in for the next generation? I know I used up mine ;)

Maybe Dishonest John had something to do with Beanie's hands.

I agree with all the comments posted about my Beany guy! It's crazy that now we go around try to buy back all those toys that we abused or threw out!! I had close to 100 vintage Barbies & Her Friends & Family growing up. My sister was 13 years younger, so when I left home at 19, I left them for her and she TOTALLY abused them all, cut their hair, broke their legs and anything else that she could do that led to my mom pitching them all eventually, including all the hundreds of vintage clothing and accessories! Why didn't I have a brother instead! LOL!

Unfortunately, I can tell you that a brother would not have been safer for your toys.
