Hello dav2no1, interesting question. I have many collections, I live in an older farmhouse and pretty much surrounded by vintage and antique items. I’ve been collecting since I was a child. I think I find comfort in the older items, be it nostalgia or just the beauty and quality I see in items from years ago. I read somewhere once that we are drawn to what we have known in a past life. Interesting theory, and if that is true, I am definitely from the later 1800s early 1900s. I enjoy preserving items from the past ,restoring them, and when not possible, repurposing them. Nice, Trivit! going to throw that question back at you… what items are you drawn to and why?
Well..I'm a visual person, so I like anything that catches my eye.
My collection is very diverse. I have everything from hotwheels to heavy morter(inert) and everything inbetween including fine art. I especially like tools, utilitarian and handmade objects like wood carved objects.
I enjoy acquiring a piece and then learning the hostory or back story of a piece. Sometimes the story is worth more than the item.
I try to include history and interesting facts associated with the item. Often I have aquired pieces and they opened up a story that I had no idea they had.
Here's a great example..I saw this and immediately knew I liked it and it was good. But when I learned about the artist...wow.

My sister and I are both collectors and have an etsy store. We buy and sell a lot of vintage glass and other items. The problem is, I like to keep the good stuff. Sometimes I hold an item until I learn something from it, then sell it to make room for another. My sister is the glass guru and I've learned a lot from her. I have an amazing ability to access items even without knowing anything about them..I have a nose for good pieces that others miss. I've bought items that my sister questioned...like vintage WWII bibles for 5 cents that sold for shy of $300!
I'm also an artist..I get things stuck in my head and I have to create..luckily I have access to a large home workshop with many parts and pieces..
I created this whole piece used some antique items, fabricated some, cut the foam, laid out and glued the velvet(friend helped) and made faux Mercury glass..

I am a self proclaimed Master Knackler. I can fix anything with anything. I've fixed concrete statues(currently working on one, will post it), wood pieces including large animal carvings and more. I believe in you don't know till you try.
It doesn't stop there..I have 2 classic Chevy Trucks that I've customized. My garage art is pretty cool(check my posting under my profile)..I'm also a super moderator for a C10 truck forum.

I used to raise pet mice and ran a Yahoo chat group with members worldwide for over a decade. You can see Shaggymouse my long haired mouse in my profile.

Here is another interesting find..I had no idea what it was and neither did the seller. When I saw it with some backlight I was blown away! Pictures don't do it justice..it has some color too. It is on my to do list to make a lightscreen frame for it..
