I saw on here somewhere where someone’s friend was going to throw out their old postcards…. The horrors !! There are so many beautiful, vintage and antique postcards, little pieces of artwork. There is also value in many of them, as well there is value in some of the old stamps on the cards. I’ve had this cute little ‘ flirty cat’ for many years, and finally decided to do some research.. there is value in both the card and the stamp and I will follow up with some information on the artist. If you like Cats you should check out his works … thirdly I read the address and who it was sent to, and found out it went to Blackwells Island (NY) to the nurses house….. if you’ve not heard of this place, it’s worth your time to Google, and read some of the stories. I’m thinking, many a horror movie stemmed from that place. Interesting to think this card came from that place and a young girl who possibly worked in the lunatic asylum. ( that is what they called ladies asylum ).

German artist Carl Robert Arthur Thiele (1860-1936) had two sons to support, and his venture into anthropomorphic art was, in part, due to its popularity in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. He produced many postcards for this market, painting pigs, geese and other animals, but he was best known for his comical depictions of cats and dachshunds. He also illustrated children's books.

Thank you, Assorted mess( love your name) nice to meet you as well! I don’t have a huge collection of postcards, but what I have I have enjoyed. I love the beauty, the history, and sometimes the quirkiness in them. If you’ve heard the term.” Jack of all trades, master of none” that kind of applies to me and collecting. Lol I have an amassed assorted, smaller collections through the years, but up until now mostly for my own enjoyment. i’m truly enjoying sharing my little treasures on CW, chatting with like minds and seeing everyone else’s treasures. The sharing of knowledge on here is the best! I’ve never done any major research on many of my items until now, so this is great. It’s also a great opportunity to give everything a much-needed dusting.( at least I can say I’m getting some ‘ house work’ done;)
