I got this strange necklace pendant recently. It looks like it couldve been designed to be a decorative syringe, it has a "needle" inside that you can slide out using a little switch on the side. The top looks like a decorative syringe plunger.
If anyone knows what this is I would be grateful for any information.

      Hello,

This could be an antique tooth pick, wearable as a pendant, or as in those those days, on a chatelaine.

hmm thats an interesting idea. Have you ever seen one before? how old would you think it is?

Yes, I have one of myself, it is of rose gold and I think of the late Victorian time, about 1890 - 1900. If you will send my your email adress I will send you a photo of mine.

Thank you, Im just not sure, when I look up antique toothpicks they all have more of a thin shovel shaped end, mine is pretty much a needle with a flat tip.

Hi , it looks like a propelling pencil to me??/
    7. Purpleisafruit6, 13 years ago
Ozmarty: The entire piece is made out of silver, including the thin needle piece.

I agree with Ozmarty...I think the external sleeve is missing and that the whole thing is a mechanical pencil.

oh man, you guys are right!!! I never thought the top would unscrew so I didnt try. I tried after I saw the picture on ebay and it twisted off. Do you think its worth anything without the external sleeve?

Update: after opening the top a second time I found two pieces of lead inside!!
This has been a fun process.
