This pen drawing on paper by Nicolai Abildgaard (1743-1809) is a recent auction aquisition. 16.5 cm X 20.5 cm. What we see is a scene from 3. act of Voltaire's play "Le Triumvirat" from 1763. But the drawing can be dated to 1796-1797. He made drawings from all 5 acts and used them as preparation for mural paintings in a wealthy merchants home. This drawing was framed badly, so I had to take the framing apart and make a new one with the original parts. I hope you can approve ? If not, it's just too bad ...
