Boy in Dress Cabinet Card with expert artist tinting c. 1885

Here is a late 19th century cabinet card that really shows quality artist tinting.

The card depicts a boy wearing a dress, which was typical of the era.

This artist has gone well beyond the typical coloration to eyes and red cheeks. The background is tinted with lighter plants-- maybe a shadow. The green, brown and yellows of the plant are done with different tones to show depth and shadows. The boys dress shows darker tinting in the folds. His face shows blue eyes and dark pupils with a mixture of pink and brown tones to the face. Even his blond hair is tinted.

This cabinet card shows an era where quality tinting was artistry.
