I found a bunch of these in a box of collectibles I bought. I put one in a light socket and turned on the switch. A little smoke (dust) and it turned red and started to give off heat. I only had it on for a few seconds. Does anyone know what they are used for and the correct voltage? It is about 3" long and 1.5" in dia.
Electric heater that normally would be screwed into a socket with a parabolic dish behind it to focus the heat in one direction and away from the fixture.
These are what they appear to be. Heaters that are able to be placed in a standard cermic 110volt light scoket. In the day they were used to heat a garage or basement or workbench while you were there. They nromaly were used with a shield behind them. They were not ment to be left on.
As you can see, the liability of having an open toaster oven type filament would never pass UL saftey guide lines today. I not sure if they are even manufactured today. Is there a manufacture's name on them?
